‘The world can’t wait’ – UK Defense Department confirms military aid to Ukraine ‘slumped’.
Britain’s defense secretary has confirmed military aid has been “rushed” to Ukraine.
Grant Shapps said “the world can’t stand it” as he urged countries to “step up” and support Kiev’s fight against Russia.
Among the items sent by the United Kingdom are 80 anti-aircraft missiles, one million rounds of ammunition and 20 Viking amphibious armored vehicles.
Mr Shapps’ tweet came after he called on allies to give Ukraine permission to use weapons they have supplied against targets in Russia-annexed Crimea.
“We have been very clear with the world and we have helped Ukraine – for example, we have given permits to use our weapons all over Ukraine… This includes Crimea, which was taken over by Putin in 2014,” he said. BBC Sunday with Laura Kuensberg:
“Right now, we don’t see how we’re going to allow our weapons to be used for targeting outside of it. But we’re giving our weapons to Ukraine so they can defend their country.”
On Volodymyr Zelensky’s calls for weapons to be made available for attacks inside Russia, Mr Shaps said: “I can’t get into the specifics of those private conversations about how exactly the weapons are used.”
