Trump’s trial: Breaking news coverage of the hush money case – live

Donald Trump meets New Yorkers ahead of resumption of hush money trial

Donald Trump made an abrupt campaign stop at a construction site in New York City early Thursday on the seventh day of his hush money trial, where jurors heard further testimony from a former tabloid mogul who detailed a “catch and kill” scheme.

the former National Enquirer Publisher David Packer testified about an agreement with his “mentor” Mr Trump and former lawyer Michael Cohen to “kill” stories about the accused’s alleged affairs. Cross-examination by defense lawyer Emile Bove is expected to end on Friday.

Judge Juan Merchan has yet to rule on whether Mr. Trump should be held in contempt and fined $10,000 for allegedly violating a trial fraud order by posting about witnesses and jurors on Truth Social.

Elsewhere in Arizona, 11 local Republicans and several key Trump allies have been indicted in a failed “voter fraud” plot to keep Trump in office after the 2020 election.

And, in Washington, the former president’s lawyers presented oral arguments before the Supreme Court to support his defense of “presidential immunity” from prosecution in a landmark hearing.

Trump Claims Campus Protests Worse Than Deadly White Rally In Charlottesville

Donald Trump claimed that an anti-Semitic, white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017 was “peanuts” compared to current pro-Palestinian demonstrations on US college campuses.

“Joe Biden would consistently say he was running because of Charlottesville,” he wrote, referring to the 2020 election.

“Well, if that’s the case, he’s done a really terrible job because Charlottesville is like the peanut riots and anti-Israel protests that are happening all over our country right now.”

The National Enquirer was an American tabloid for many years. Donald Trump helped change that

Catch and kill. Journalism of checks. Secret deals. Friends help friends.

Even by the National Enquirer’s standards, former publisher David Packer’s testimony this week at Donald Trump’s money trial exposed a staggering level of corruption at America’s most famous tabloid, and it may one day be considered literally dead.

“He just has zero credibility,” said Lachlan Cartwright, the Enquirer’s executive editor from 2014 to 2017. “Whatever credibility there may have been has been completely damaged by what happened in court this week.”

On Thursday, Packer returned to the witness stand to say more about the deal he made to boost Trump’s 2016 presidential bid, knock down his rivals and silence any revelations that might hurt him.
