The Sparks lost center Cameron Brink for the season after he suffered a torn ACL Tuesday night in Connecticut.
The 6-foot-3 forward, the No. 2 overall pick in April’s WNBA draft, was driving to the basket against the Suns when her left knee went down. Brink limped off the court before being led to the locker room.
Brink, 22, averaged 7.5 points in 22 minutes per game for the Sparks, whose 79-70 loss on Tuesday night dropped them to 4-11 on the season and 10th in the 12-team league.
His 2.3 blocks per game are third in the league and his 5.3 rebounds per game are second on the Sparks.
The injury will keep Brink out of next month’s Olympics in Paris, where she was expected to be a key player on the U.S. women’s four-man 3×3 team.
The injury leaves the Sparks with only 6-foot-7 Li Yueru in the middle. The rookie center from China is averaging 5.1 points and 3.8 rebounds in 12.8 minutes per game.
The Sparks were without 6-foot-6 forward Azura Stevens, who has been out for the entire season after undergoing surgery on her left hand suffered in late March while playing in China. Sparks estimates Steven will be re-evaluated 12 weeks after surgery.
The Sparks, who have lost four straight, will face Liberty (12-3) on Thursday in New York at 4 p.m.
