Russia’s Ukraine war live: Putin threatens to arm Western foes as Kiev frustrates slow F-16 training

Zelensky says that China is trying to undermine the Ukrainian peace summit

Vladimir Putin has threatened to retaliate against Western countries that allow Ukraine to hit Russia with their long-range missiles.

Putin said Russia would supply such weapons to countries or adversaries within striking distance of the West.

“If we see that these countries are involved in a war against the Russian Federation, we reserve the right to act in the same way. In general, this is a path to very serious problems,” Putin said yesterday at the annual economic forum in St. Petersburg.

He did not specify where he would consider delivering such missiles.

The Kremlin also said Russia was ready to strike French troops if they were sent to Ukraine to help train Kiev’s troops, calling them legitimate targets.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has expressed frustration with the pace of training Ukrainian pilots for F-16 fighter jets, noting that at the current rate it will not have a full squadron of trained F-16 pilots by the end of 2025, Politico reported. The delay is due in part to a lack of space at the Arizona training center.

Scholz: Ukraine may use Western weapons against Russian border strikes

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reiterated his position that Ukraine can use Western-supplied weapons to defend itself against attacks inside Russia, such as those against the Kharkiv region.

“To defend against such attacks, Ukraine can also use weapons provided by us and our allies – always in accordance with international legal obligations,” Mr Scholz told the lower house of parliament in the Bundestag.

Mr Scholz’s comments came after Russian President Vladimir Putin warned on Wednesday that allowing Kiev to hit Russia with more powerful weapons was a serious escalation that would push the West towards war with Russia.

Putin denies Russian plans to attack NATO

Vladimir Putin has denied claims that Russia is planning an attack on NATO, a scenario repeated by Western leaders who are not ruling it out.

Western leaders and Ukraine have dismissed Russian warnings about the risk of a wider war with Russia, but have repeatedly warned Putin he might attack a member of NATO, the world’s most powerful military alliance.

Russia attacked its European neighbor Ukraine in February 2022 after months of denying that a troop build-up along the border was a prelude to an invasion.

“They thought that Russia wanted to attack NATO. are you totally crazy It’s as thick as this table. Who came up with this? It’s just complete bullshit, you know? Total rubbish,” Putin said yesterday in St. Petersburg.

“You should not identify Russia as an enemy. You’re only hurting yourself, you know?” she said.

Both Putin and Biden have said that a direct conflict between Russia, the world’s largest nuclear power, and the US-led NATO would be a step toward World War III.

Putin says Trump’s conviction is manipulation of US justice system in ‘political battle’

Vladimir Putin has tried to argue that Donald Trump’s money-laundering charges are the result of using the US justice system in an “internal political struggle”.

Speaking in St. Petersburg, as Alexei Navalny’s ally Ilya Yashin lost an appeal against his false designation as a “foreign agent,” the Russian president said the United States was “burning itself from the inside, its state, its political system.”

He added: “It’s clear around the world that prosecuting Trump, especially in a court of law based on allegations that were made up of events years ago, without direct evidence, is simply using the judicial system in an internal political battle. .”

Ukraine is “possible” to change the “difficult” fighting situation, military commander says

Ukrainian soldiers can turn the difficult battlefield situation in the country’s east, where the fiercest fighting is taking place, to their advantage by “doing everything,” a senior military official said.

The commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces, Oleksandr Sirsky, said that his commanders of Ukrainian units are “fully aware of the situation” and “skillfully” use all kinds of weapons, including attack aircraft. “Our task is to stop the enemy and force them to go on the defensive,” he said.

“Despite the difficult situation, we have a chance to change the situation in our favor. And the defense forces are doing everything for it,” a senior Ukrainian military official said in a daily update last night after visiting the eastern part of the front line.

Russian forces continue to attack the Kurakhov, Pokrovsky, Kupyansk and Kharkiv sectors.

Heavy fighting is also taking place near the city of Kupyansk in Kharkiv Oblast, where Russian troops are trying to break through Ukraine’s defenses from two sides, Sirsky said.

“Our main task in Vovchansk at this stage is to contain the enemy, inflict maximum losses and gradually advance to liberate our territories,” the commander said.

The task of the Supreme Military Command is to provide the troops of the Kharkiv region with sufficient ammunition and combat reserves.
