News – Paramount+ Announces New Documentary ‘Let The Canary Sing’ Premieres June 4th


Directed by award-winning documentarian Alison Ellwood, the upcoming film explores the cultural influence and legacy of icon Cyndi Lauper

May 7, 2024 – Paramount+ today announced that LET THE CANARY SING, a feature film exploring the remarkable life and career of Cyndi Lauper, will premiere exclusively in the US and Canada on Tuesday, June 4th and Wednesday, June 6th. 5 in the UK, Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Directed by Emmy(R) Award-winning documentarian Alison Ellwood, the film had its world premiere at the 2023 Tribeca Festival.

Produced by Fine Point Films and Sony Music Entertainment in association with Concord Originals, LET THE CANARY SING chronicles Lauper’s meteoric rise to stardom and her profound impact on generations through her music, ever-evolving punk style, unwavering feminism and tireless advocacy. The documentary takes viewers on a fascinating exploration of a renowned and pioneering artist who has left a remarkable legacy with his art.

When I first met Alison Ellwood, I knew right away that I could trust her. Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release a companion product to the documentary of the same name. The companion album to LET THE CANARY SING is a career compilation that follows Lauper’s career from her Blue Angels days to her breakout single “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and on to iconic pop stardom.
