Punjab declares summer vacation for schools from May 21 to June 30 amid heatwave
The Punjab government on Monday declared summer vacations in all government, aided and private schools from May 21 to June 30 amid severe heat. The maximum temperature is in the range of 43-45 degrees Celsius in several parts of Punjab and Haryana. According to the education department, in view of the weather warning issued by the weather office regarding heat conditions and health of children, holidays have been declared in schools – state, aided and private – in Punjab. On Saturday, the department changed school timings to maintain classes. Open 7 a.m. to noon. This order had to be fulfilled by May 31.
Iran’s president died: the government announced a one-day state mourning on May 21
A day-long mourning will be declared across India on Tuesday as a mark of respect to Iranian President Ebrahim Rais, who was killed in a helicopter crash, the Union Home Ministry said. The national flag will be at half-mast. Buildings where regular flights to India and there will be no official entertainment during the period of state mourning.
Iran’s president, foreign minister and several other officials were found dead on Monday, hours after their helicopter crashed in a foggy, mountainous region of the country’s northwest, Iranian state media reported. Spokesman of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said, Seyed Ebrahim Rais, President. Hossein Amit-Abdolahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, died as a result of a helicopter crash.
As a mark of respect to the deceased dignitaries, the Government of India has decided that there will be a day of mourning across India on May 21 (Tuesday), the spokesperson said. On the day of mourning, the national flag will be flown at half-mast on all buildings across India where the national flag is regularly flown and there will be no official day of entertainment, the official added.
