MIDTOWN, MANHATTAN (WABC) — Police are investigating after a 33-year-old man was shot near Manhattan’s popular Midtown neighborhood on Tuesday.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at Broadway and West 33rd Street, just a block away from Penn Station, around 8 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found a 33-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his left leg.
He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals / Bellevue where he is expected to survive.
Sources told Eyewitness News that the incident started with a fight between the victim and a group of people. According to them, one person from the group reached into his bag, took out a gun and shot the victim.
“I was walking up 6th avenue. I heard a gunshot and saw two people arguing – a shirtless guy and a shirtless guy with drugs and the shirtless guy was the one who got it. They got shot,” said witness Jose Rivera. “All I heard was that he kept saying he wanted to kill them and he wanted to die. And he said the same thing to the police, he doesn’t want to press charges, he just wants them dead.”
According to the source, the suspect fled on a scooter.
No one has been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
