It’s been a week since British teenager Jay Slater went missing on the Spanish island of Tenerife.
On June 17, 1919, he disappeared while on vacation with friends, which was searched for by mountain rescuers and the police.
Mr Slater’s family also flew to the island to retrace his steps and a GoFundMe appeal to raise money for the search topped £30,000 at the weekend.
In a recent phone call to a friend, he said he was lost, needed water and his phone battery was nearly dead as he tried to make the 11-hour walk back to his accommodation.
Mr. SlaterThe bricklayer, from Oswaldtwistle, near Blackburn, Lancashire, was last seen by his friends at the NRG Festival on Sunday, June 16.
Here’s what we know so far about his last known movements and the quest to find him.
A timeline of his last known movements
Sunday afternoon – Mr. Slater attends the NRG Festival in South Tenerife with a group of friends. After that, he goes to the northwestern mountain village of Maska with two people he met at the festival.
Monday around 8am – Ofelia Medina Hernandez, the last celebrity to speak to Mr. Slater, tells him that the bus is scheduled for 10 a.m. when he asks. He sets off on foot and says he is “walking fast” as he passes him later.
Monday, 8:15 am – She calls her friend, Lucy Law, saying she got lost while trying to walk south from Masca to her apartment in Los Cristianos.
Monday, 8:50 am – His last live location was shown as the Rural de Teno Park – a mountainous area popular with hikers.
Monday, 9.04 am – He is lost.
Last phone call – 1% battery
The last person to speak to Mr Slater was his friend Lucy Lo, who says she called him on Monday morning to say she was lost, needed water and only had 1% charge on her phone.
In a brief phone call, he told her he had missed the bus trying to get back to his holiday home, so he was trying to walk instead – a journey that would take 11 hours.
He told the Manchester Evening News that someone met Mr Slater on a night out, drove him back to his flat in a hire car without realizing how far away he was.
“He ended up in the middle of nowhere. Jay obviously thought he could get home from there,” he told the newspaper.
Mr Slater called and said he “didn’t know where he was”, that he “needed a drink” and had “Cut off a leg on a cactus”he told the UK’s Tonight program on Sky News.
He was without food or water, he added, and was in a T-shirt and shorts. “It’s very warm today and very cold at night,” he said.
Ms Lowe said before hanging up, she said she had missed the bus trying to get back to her holiday home, so had tried to walk instead – a journey that would have taken 11 hours.
Questions about why Mr. Slater attempted the journey on foot
Ms Lowe said she had “managed to find the house” where Mr Slater was last seen.
Two people in the house told him that Mr Slater had gone outside to smoke and said he wanted to go home, he added.
“They told me he spoke to the neighbors and they told him there was a bus every 10 minutes to Los Cristianos,” he said.
“The bus stop was right by the house. So obviously if he took the bus he wouldn’t get lost because [the stop] It was visible from the front door.”
The owner of the property where she was last seen, who gave her name as Ophelia, told reporters she saw Mr Slater walk down the road onto her property but has not seen him since – describing the situation as disturbing.
Searching for Mr. Slater
Helicopters, rescue dogs and drones spent days scouring the overcrowded terrain, hills and rivers.
On Friday, police, fire and search and rescue teams scoured a large area of land in and around the village of Maska before narrowing their search to where the teenager’s phone finally rang.
Guardia Civil officers from the Canary Islands could be seen patrolling the two structures on Sunday in the Rural de Teno park at the foot of the ravine.
Those searching on the seventh day of the hunt for Mr. Slater could be seen peering into the blue barrels outside one of the small buildings.
Mr Slater’s family have set up a Facebook group to help review aerial images, CCTV and social media footage in a bid to find him.
A missing person poster said Mr Slater was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, shorts, trainers and a black bag.

What do the authorities say?
Spain’s Civil Guard told British media it was “doing everything” to find Mr Slater.
“A specialized mountain rescue and intervention team called Graeme has been mobilized.”
Lancashire Constabulary said it had offered Spanish police “if they needed any additional resources”, but the offer was rejected.
The force added: “They have confirmed that at the moment they are satisfied they have the resources they need, but that offer remains open and they will contact us if that position changes.”
The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) said in a statement: “We are supporting the family of a British man who went missing in Spain and are in contact with local authorities.”
What those close to Mr. Slater have said
Mr Slater’s father, Warren Slater, told Sky News on Saturday that he was “just hoping someone helped him off that mountain”.
The father flew to Tenerife with the missing teenager’s brother Zach to help with the search, describing the last few days as a “nightmare”.
Meanwhile, Mr Slater’s mother Debbie Duncan made a direct plea for her missing son to come home for the weekend, saying: “We just need you at home.”
Ms Duncan said she had “not slept” since he disappeared.
The The construction company where the missing teenager is employed took to social media to try to put to rest the rumors and conspiracy theories that have circulated since her disappearance.
PH Build wrote on Facebook: “Jay has been with us since he left school and everyone likes him. He is a valuable member of our team and we stand by him.
“The picture painted on him just isn’t true. The fact is he’s a 19-year-old lost in a foreign land. He needs to come home where he belongs. Come on Jay, we’re all praying for you.”
Coronation Street star Vicky Entwistle, best known for her role as Janice Battersby in the soap, is Mr Slater’s grandmother’s godmother.
he Posted on X June 18: “Oh my God my mother’s grandson is missing. His mother flew out at 7pm. To join the police search. I hope to God they find her. Please. [pray] for him.”
Mr Slater’s stepfather, Andy Watson, told The Sun his stepson was “not a mug” and “very streetwise” but that he may have lost his temper before it got dark.
