A Fire Warning (Red Flag Warning) will be in effect from noon to 9pm CDT for Oklahoma, Dallam, Sherman, Hartley, Moore, Oldham, Potter and Deaf Smith counties in the Texas Panhandle. Also, a fire weather warning will be in effect from 11 am to 8 pm MDT for all of eastern New Mexico.
Extended Forecast – Today will be another day of split weather across the region. West of the dry line, where we see drier air, fire danger will be critical as we see temperatures in the 80s and 90s, gusts up to 40 mph, and humidity in the single digits. Try not to create sparks. Along the dry line and east of where we see moist air, there will be a few storms this evening. Storms that develop are expected to become severe fairly quickly, with tennis ball-sized hail and 70 mph winds being the main threat. We can’t rule out the possibility of a tornado or two in the Southeast Texas Panhandle, but the odds appear to be on the lower side unless the storm remains isolated. Localized flooding will also be a problem if this storm develops. They will be effective rain producers with rates of up to 2″ per hour possible. A cold front will move in tonight and into Thursday, cooling us down a bit by the end of the week. Temperatures are expected to be in the 70s for daytime highs. Depending on whether we get some sunshine on Friday, we may again We will see some isolated thunderstorms but we will need to warm up enough to get any rain in the afternoon, signs point to Saturday and Sunday being slightly better days with a chance of rain as another front swings between the panels, things can change, be prepared weather wise!
