Michael Mosley: Body found in Symi search for missing anchor

A body was found on the Greek island of Simis during the search for TV and radio host Dr. Michael Mosley.

A 67-year-old man went missing on Wednesday after going for a walk on the beach in Agios Nikolaos.

The body – which has yet to be identified – was found in a rocky area Sunday at the beach of Agia Marina.

According to the mayor of Symi, the body was found when teams with cameras searched the coastline.

A police source told BBC News that the deceased had been dead for “several days”.

The body was found next to the fence. It is not moved from the place, a few meters away, where children play in the water on the beach of Agia Marina.

The bar manager, who was with reporters, found the body, the PA news agency reported, after the island’s mayor “saw something” near the bar’s fence and alerted staff.

Agia Marina bar manager Ilias Tsavaris said: “They called me and said, you know what, we saw something from a distance, you can go and check it.

“So when I went up I saw something like a body.”

He added that rescuers were searching the area with helicopters every day.

Greek authorities conducted an extensive search for Dr Mosley for five days amid high temperatures.

The effort included firefighters, dogs, helicopters, drones, local residents and officers from Simi and off the island.

On Saturday, BBC News obtained CCTV footage of one of the last known sightings of a man believed to be Dr Mosley walking with an umbrella near the village of Paddy’s Marina on Wednesday.

His four children also joined his wife, Dr. Claire Bailey Mosley, on the island.

Dr Mosley was first reported missing after he left Agios Nikolaos beach to go for a walk at 1330 local time (11.30 BST).

His wife later reported him missing.

Dr. Mosley studied medicine in London and qualified as a doctor at the end two He has worked as a presenter, documentarian, journalist and author for decades.

He is known for his television programs including Trust Me, I’m a Doctor and BBC Radio 4’s Just One Thing podcast.

He is known for promoting the 5:2 and Fast 800 diets, which advocate intermittent fasting and low-carb eating.

His diet has attracted a lot of attention in the past, both for methods and scientific accuracy.

By the time he qualified as a doctor, Mosley was no longer registered as a doctor.
