Water crisis in Balwanta village of Ajmer affects marriage prospects. Villagers struggle even after 2024 general election boycott announced

Ajay Raj, a resident of Balwanta village says, “Our village is just 10 km away from Ajmer city. There is no water supply in our village and we don’t have clean drinking water either. We are forced to drink fluoridated water. This also affects the marriage prospects in the village as the women in the village need to walk 2-2.5 km on the highway to fill their drinking water. There are about 5,000 people in the village… The entire village boycotted the elections, but even after 1 month, not a single administrative employee or political leader bothered to come here and understand our issues.”

An encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday, police said. The search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire on the search party of the force, which then retaliated, he said.
