Lexi Thompson has announced her plans to retire from professional golf at the end of the current season ahead of this week’s US Women’s Open.
Ahead of her 18th consecutive appearance at the US Women’s Open – a tournament where she became the youngest qualifier at age 12 in 2007 – the 29-year-old revealed she will be putting down her clubs for good at the end of the LPGA. A tour season that will shock the golf world.
Thompson is expected to reconsider his decision after Tuesday’s practice round at Lancaster Country Club, where he is looking to add to the second major title he won at the Chevron Championship a decade ago.
The Floridian, who has 11 LPGA wins and two LET wins, turned pro in June 2010 and earned her first LPGA win at age 16 in 2011. He made six appearances for Team USA at the Solheim Cup, winning twice, and represented his country at the Olympics in 2016 in Rio and 2021 in Tokyo.
Thompson, who has competed in the top 10 of the Rolex World Rankings throughout her professional career, is among the all-time leading earners (10th) on the LPGA, having earned £14,048,571.
