2 dogs dead, 2 rescued after Canoga Park house fire

Canoga Park, California. (KABC) — Two dogs died and another was rescued after a fire broke out in a “tightly packed” home in Canoga Park early Saturday, authorities said.

Firefighters dispatched to 21724 W. Napa St., east of Topanga Canyon Boulevard, at 7:17 a.m. extinguished the stubborn fire within 30 minutes of their arrival, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters began an “exhaustive search” of the 1,320-square-foot, one-story home and found one of the three missing dogs alive, LAFD’s Brian Humphrey said. Firefighters helped the dog. The other two dogs were found dead in the smoke-filled structure.

The three adult residents were away from the home at the time of the fire, Humphrey added. No human injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are still under investigation.
