2 dead in apparent murder-suicide, Logan Co. The sheriff’s office is investigating

A husband shot and killed his wife in Logan County before killing himself, according to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators say the murder-suicide happened around 8 a.m. Monday outside a home in the 3400 block of Weldwood Road in North Edmond.

The sheriff’s office says the wife was at home getting work done when the husband pulled up behind them, got out and fired two shots into the driver’s side, killing the wife. Investigators say the husband was walking to the passenger side where the employee was sitting.

“The passenger was able to get out at that point,” Logan County Sheriff Damon Devereaux said.

After the woman fled, the man died of a gunshot wound, Sheriff Devereaux said. The employee was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

“I’ve never been in a situation like this, but I can’t imagine the fear he must have felt when he was so close to something like that,” Devereaux said. “I’m sure he felt his life was coming to an end.”

The couple had a history of domestic calls and the husband had been arrested in the past, according to the sheriff’s office. Devereaux says his office urged the wife to file a protective order against her husband, but she never did.

“It’s just an unfortunate situation with the cases that the court system can stop something like this, but we need the victim’s help to do that,” he said.

Investigators said the couple’s young child was inside the home at the time of the shooting but was not injured. The sheriff’s office asked the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to assist in the crime scene investigation.
