2 children killed, 15 injured after car crashes into children’s birthday party building

According to the police, the 66-year-old suspect was arrested on the spot.

Two children were killed and 15 people were injured after a woman drove her car into a child’s birthday party, Sheriff Troy Goodnow said at a news conference Saturday evening.

According to the police, the two children who died at the scene were siblings, an 8-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy.

Around 3 p.m., the woman drove her car through the wall of the Swan Boat Club in Monroe County, Michigan, coming to rest 25 feet inside, authorities said.

First aid was given to 15 injured people at the scene of the accident. Nine were taken to local hospitals — via ambulance or helicopter — with life-threatening injuries. Of the nine transferred, three were children and six were adults. Others at the scene were taken to hospitals by private vehicle, the sheriff said.

The 66-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene for driving while intoxicated causing death and is currently being held in the Monroe County Jail, according to Goodnough.

According to Sheriff Goodnow, first responders described the scene as “extremely chaotic.”

The number of people in the party is still under investigation.

The Swan Boat Club is located on Lake Erie, about 30 miles south of Detroit.

“Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers,” the facility said in a statement on social media. “We thank everyone for their concern and prayers.
